What the Apple Full GSX report tells you — and what it can’t
The fullest record for an iPhone or iPad: model, serial, warranty, purchase country, carrier and activation policy, Find My, MDM and DEP. Read the fields before choosing it over the lock check.
The Apple Full GSX report is the fullest record you can get for an iPhone or iPad from its IMEI or serial number: the model and configuration, the serial, the warranty, where and when it was first sold, the carrier and activation policy it is tied to, and whether Find My, MDM or DEP is on it. It answers the original-carrier question — the field most people buy it for — and several others at once. If you only need the lock status and the carrier, the Apple Simlock/Model Status check is the cheaper way to that one answer.
Check the lock on the phone first
- 1Carrier Lock in SettingsSettings → General → About → Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” means the iPhone is unlocked; “SIM locked” means it is tied to a carrier. This is free and takes a minute, but it does not say which carrier.
- 2The IMEI or serialSame screen, a little further down: the serial number and the IMEI. Either one works for this report; dial *#06# for the IMEI on any phone.
What the report returns
These are the fields of a real report, as the masked sample on this page shows. A field Apple’s records do not hold for that device comes back marked unavailable, never invented.
| Group | Fields |
|---|---|
| The device | Model, configuration description and code, serial number, IMEI (and IMEI2 and EID on dual-SIM models), product line, personalised device. |
| Sale and warranty | Sold by, purchase country and date, registration date, warranty status and code, limited warranty, onsite coverage, labour and parts covered, replacement history, GSX cases, loaner device. |
| Carrier and lock | Carrier, applied and initial activation policy, next tether policy, unlock date, GSX unlock. |
| Software and locks | OS version, first activation date, last restore date, last unbrick OS build, Find My (FMI), MDM lock, DEP enrolment. |
Original carrier and current service are different things
The carrier and activation-policy fields name the network the iPhone was sold for and is tied to. That is not the same as the SIM that happens to be in it now: a phone on a prepaid brand’s SIM can be locked to the brand’s parent network, and a used phone may show a carrier the seller never mentioned. The policy fields are what decide which unlock the phone needs, so read them before ordering one.
When the cheaper check is enough
- You only want to know whether the iPhone is locked and to which carrier: the Simlock/Model Status check answers that.
- You want the warranty, purchase date, Find My, MDM or DEP status as well: this report.
- You are about to buy a used iPhone: this report plus a blacklist check, before paying.
- You are choosing an unlock: the activation policy here tells you the network; then open that network under Find your network.
Ordering
Type the IMEI or the serial in the order card above and pay; the report comes by email in the time shown on the card, and you can follow it under Track order. Our guide to checking a used phone’s IMEI before you buy explains how to read the result against a seller’s listing.
