Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile sell phones locked to their service and both follow a 60-day rule, with the phone paid in full and the account in good standing. The difference is in how the unlock happens: Xfinity says most phones unlock by themselves within 48 hours of being paid off, while Spectrum asks you to call and then confirms by email.
The two rule sets, side by side
| Xfinity Mobile | Spectrum Mobile | |
|---|---|---|
| Time active | At least 60 days | At least 60 calendar days on the Spectrum network (its terms say “more than 60 days”) |
| Payment | Paid in full | Paid off in full |
| Account | No past-due balance | In good standing |
| Reported phones | Not lost, stolen or involved in fraud | Not lost, stolen or involved in fraud |
| Who can ask | The account holder, a Primary user or a Manager | The customer who bought it from Spectrum and activated it on a Spectrum line |
| How it happens | Mostly by itself within 48 hours of payoff; otherwise chat with Xfinity Assistant | Call (833) 224-6603; Spectrum emails a confirmation |
| Military | Early unlock with orders for 90+ days outside the US or a permanent change of station — all other rules still apply | Nothing on the page |
Xfinity Mobile: what happens on the phone
- Not eligible yet? Xfinity says the phone can’t use another provider’s SIM — a local data plan abroad included — until every rule is met.
- Already unlocked? Put in a SIM from another provider and look for the unlock confirmation on the home screen.
- iPhone: no unlock code. Apple phones unlock through updates while connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Android from 2022 or later: once the rules are met, restart the phone — most of the time nothing more is needed; some still get a code by email.
- Older Android: Xfinity emails an unlock code to the address on the account. Insert the new SIM and enter the code when the phone asks for a network unlock code.
- Motorola: a wrong code entered repeatedly starts a three-minute timeout; after that you can try again with the right code.
Spectrum Mobile: what happens on the phone
- Apple, Google and Samsung phones: after your call, a message on the phone confirms when it has been unlocked.
- LG: dial *#7465625#, choose Network Carrier Unlock, then enter the code Spectrum emailed you.
- TCL: insert a non-Spectrum SIM and power on; at “Enter Corporate Code” enter the code (five attempts; after three wrong ones, call Spectrum).
- Orbic: contact Orbic Support for the steps.
